Overview: The students will work in groups to research famous hurricanes from the US or their native countries. They will create a visual presentation about the overview of a hurricane, including the components, the severity, the damage effect, and the popularity. This is a lesson plan to help the students have a general sense of what a hurricane is before going in more depth throughout the unit.

Lesson 2: What are the parts of a hurricane?
Overview: To understand the different parts of a hurricane, the students will be creating a model of a hurricane using a funnel. They will use online resources to research and investigate the different components of a hurricane. They will be able to identify the different parts of a hurricane by labeling the funnel as a representation model of a real hurricane. To ensure their understanding, the students are required, not just label the parts, but explain in writing the role of each components.

The students will be working in groups and will be required to use picture cards to show initial thought about the sequence of hurricane formation. The students will investigate a given website and a video to learn about how hurricanes are formed and its severity level and revise their initial thoughts before presenting. The students will be required to write and explain each picture cards in depth.

Overview: Using what they have learned throughout the unit, the students will be creating an evacuation plan. The students, in groups, will be asked to build their own town using manipulative, such as Legos, and create a fictional hurricane. After creating a town and a hurricane, the students will research actual evacuation plans to create their own in-depth evacuation plan. Students will have to explain what factors they had to consider and the reasonings behind each part of the plan to show their genuine understanding.
